Private Space
Guy Cohen
In Guy Cohen's second solo exhibition the artist displays a series of objects meant for infants (Cradle, Crib and High Chair). In the background hangs screen prints of white on white.
In this exhibit Cohen exposes the dynamic between the soft and the hard in private space, two sides of existence, which involve a complex dynamic of dialogue and struggle. These objects are constructed from iron, a substance at once dense and unyielding. They present an unexpected encounter in the world of children's furniture.
This series radiates frostiness, oppression and even cruelty, a type of incarceration for the newborn.
The displayed prints convey tenderness, lightness and the pleasure of touch in contrast to the heavy objects.
In 'Private Space' Cohen exposes the conflict between our hard and soft selves, the oppressive versus the liberating, and pain versus passion for life.
A dynamic, which creates a subject that through suffering and hardship, seeks liberation.
